Illuminate Your Space with Refillable Oil Candles
Every once in a while, I find something for Thorn & Thimble that I don’t simply like. I fall completely in love with it. That happened with these refillable oil candles. The moment I saw those little glass bottles filled with beautiful botanicals and topped with a glowing flame, I knew they belonged in the shop. They look like something you’d discover tucked away on the shelf of an old apothecary—part candle, part curiosity, and part tiny work of art. And unlike an ordinary candle that slowly disappears every time you light it, these beauties are refillable.
A Candle You Don’t Have to Say Goodbye To
There’s always something a little sad about reaching the bottom of a candle you love. The wax is gone, the wick has given up, and that beautiful container you’re emotionally attached to is suddenly destined to hold paper clips. These are different. The refillable design means the candle itself can stay with you. Add more appropriate lamp oil when needed, tend the wick, and light it again. I love that idea—not just because it’s practical, but because it turns the candle into something you can keep. Something that becomes part of your space rather than something you simply use up.
Clean, Simple Light
Another thing that immediately caught my attention was the clean-burning oil flame. Instead of a traditional wax candle, these use oil and a wick to create a warm, steady flame. There’s no pool of melting wax slowly swallowing the beautiful things inside the bottle, either. And those beautiful things are a very big part of why I love them.
Each bottle is its own miniature botanical display, filled with flowers, leaves, herbs, and color. Even when the candle isn’t burning, it looks gorgeous sitting on a shelf, altar, nightstand, writing desk, or tucked among your favorite curiosities. Light it, though, and the whole thing comes alive.
And Then There’s Lilith…

I absolutely have a favorite.
Lilith. The Lilith oil candle was the one that got me. The dark purple botanicals inside that clear glass bottle are exactly the sort of beautiful, slightly mysterious thing I can’t resist. It’s elegant without being fussy and unusual enough that I would happily leave it out all year. It looks like it belongs beside a stack of old books, a few crystals, some dried herbs, and whatever other suspicious objects you’ve collected because they “felt right.” You know who you are.
Find the One That Feels Like Yours
Of course, Lilith isn’t alone. The collection includes candles with dramatically different personalities—from the fiery oranges and golds of Helios and The Sun to the celestial blues of Saturn, the rich botanical colors of Hera, and the wonderfully vivid Jupiter. That’s one of my favorite things about the collection. They don’t feel like six versions of the same product. Each has its own character, which makes choosing one surprisingly personal. Are you drawn to something dark and mysterious? Bright and solar? Celestial? Wild and botanical? Or, if you’re anything like me, are you already mentally arranging several of them together on a shelf? That is also an acceptable answer.
More Than Just a Candle
They’re useful.
They’re reusable.
They’re beautiful when they’re burning and beautiful when they’re not. And, perhaps most importantly, they have that wonderfully peculiar quality that made me start Thorn & Thimble in the first place: They feel a little bit magical.
